Beachwood Golf Course

Course Information & The Greens

A stone’s throw from Durban Country Club, the Durban Country Club Beachwood course is a hidden gem offering a superb challenge for the golfer that enjoys a typical Links layout. It is currently rated 29 in the Golf Digest Top 100 Courses in SA.

The course was taken over by Durban Country Club in the early 1990’s and underwent some refining and alterations to bring the course closer to Championship standard – offering the discerning golfer an alternative challenge to Durban Country Club course.

An interesting aspect of the course is that it lies at the southern end of Virginia Airport – a small airport typically used for small commercial aircraft, private flights, training flights and helicopters – adding an exciting element to your round of golf of seeing these small aircraft taking off and landing directly overhead.

Barring the par 3 2nd hole, all the fairways run parallel to one another in a N-NE / S-SW direction. The 6th and 9th fairways both have a dog-leg left to consider, with the remainder of the fairways featuring a familiar straight layout. There are 41 bunkers around the greens, and 33 fairway bunkers waiting for wayward shots, with most fairways lined with trees making for an interesting challenge. Four of the holes feature beautiful water features/hazards.

Beachwood course offers an exceptional challenge for both amateur and pro players with narrow, long fairways, requiring precision tee shots and lay-ups. The course is maintained with the same diligence and care as that of the Country Club course.

Signature Hole – Hole 6, par 4

The 6th hole is one of the most demanding par 4’s you will find anywhere in South Africa or indeed the world. At 410m from the back tee, which is set high in the dunes, the hole doglegs left, replete with a stream, bush and water hazard to be negotiated en route to the green.
