The Durban Country Club golf course, steeped in rich history and tradition, boasts the unique claim of being the only course on the African continent to be rated in the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World by Golf Magazine USA and is rated in the Top 5 golf courses in South Africa by Golf Digest SA. In 2021, the Club was named the leading golf venue in South Africa by top100golfcourses.com (in association with TaylorMade), in addition to being nominated for a 2021 World Golf Award.

The course’s defining characteristics are the massive undulations on its fairways, which are especially noticeable on the 3rd, 5th, 8th and 17th holes. The course offers a links type layout and the coastal sand dunes make the course an interesting, yet challenging round for both the amateur and pro golfer alike.

HISTORY

Heritage

The Durban Country Club has evolved over the past 100 years, becoming a well-known icon both nationally and internationally. Much of the history of the game in South Africa has been enacted at Durban Country Club and legendary players like Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus, Sally Little, Ernie Els, Sid Brews, Bobby Locke, Papwa Sewgolum and Gary Player have had some of their greatest golfing moments here. In fact, the course, overlooking the Blue Lagoon estuary and the Indian Ocean, has hosted 17 South African Opens in total, more than any other club in South Africa.

Established in December 1922

The premier Durban Country Club is rated one of the Top 100 Golf courses in the world, offering world-class golfing experiences and exceptional sporting and leisure facilities to seasoned professionals, golfing enthusiasts and families alike. The Club is also home to some of South Africa’s greatest sportsmen and women including Neil Tovey (Soccer), Shaun Pollock (Cricket), Precious Mthembu (Netball), Cindy Hack (Hockey), Kevin Curren (Tennis) and John Smit (Rugby) as well as our guests.

A run with a view

Running

Durban Country Club is proud to host our very own running club. The DCC Running and Athletics Club (DCC RAC) is formally registered with KZN Athletics, and encourages both runners and walkers alike to join our running community.

Runners meet every Wednesday afternoon for a 5km run with a longer run on Saturday mornings.

We also hold our DCC’s ‘Run the course’ event, a 4 and 8 km run, is held once a month and aims to inspire participants to adopt healthy lifestyles while enjoying scenic views of Durban.

Life IS BETTER ON THE COURT

Tennis

Durban Country Club Tennis facilities feature six all-weather top-quality hard courts with high quality white floodlights, and four stand-alone mini-tennis courts, the first of its kind in the province.

DCC offers a practice wall on the mini-tennis courts which are situated near the KidZone and swimming pool facilities. The Club encourages our juniors to participate in tennis, offering squads, group and individual lessons, together with various tours across the country and the opportunity to compete in local tennis leagues. The Club also has a fully functioning mini tennis programme for children eager to learn the game.

Our tennis facilities are available throughout the year for members, their guests.
