Strokeplay Championships

We would like to congratulate Jonathan Broomhead and Dave Fischer on their very impressive wins in the A and B division Strokeplay championships played over the past weekend.

Jonathan captured the A Division title with a 1 over par total of 145 (68,77). This gave him a 1 shot victory over the recent SA Amateur finalist Chris Woollam and DCC stalwart Murray Gilson. Jonathan showed tremendous heart and character over the closing stages of the tournament and a birdie 3 on the final hole secured victory over his two pursuers. This is Jonathans second consecutive strokeplay title at DCC and we are very proud to have him as our Strokeplay champion for another year.

The B division was a very closely contested affair with 3 players tying for the lead on 164. Brian Stokoe, Dave Fischer and Matthew Bergset played off for the title in a sudden death playoff down the 1st hole with Dave Fischer winning with a par 4 following a superb up and down from the right side of the green. Congratulations to all 3 gentlemen and a special mention to Brain Stokoe, it was fantastic to see him playing so well. We hope to see him competing against these young guns for many years to come.

The C division will be contested on the 7th of April with the top 16 qualifiers going through to the matchplay where all 3 divisions will play from Saturday the 14th of April. We wish all the qualifiers the best of luck for the matchplay and we really appreciate your support for this most prestigious title of Durban Country Club Champion.

On behalf of everyone at DCC we would like to thank Standard Bank, SG and Global Golf for their very generous support in sponsoring our championships.

The Wallington’s team need to be commended on delivering two superbly prepared golf courses for the weekend. They have worked incredibly hard over the past few months and this work has certainly paid off.

Thanks, must also go to Matthew Mayo for his voluntary work as rules official and setting up of the golf course. Having Matthew involved helps enormously in putting together a successful event.

100 Club

The 100 Club got off to a fantastic start on Friday the 23rd with a magnificent turnout for the launch of the Marshalls World of Sport 100 club draw. It was fantastic to see so many of our members come down to support this event which will be happening monthly. We really appreciate Marshalls support in helping us to re-launch this event at DCC and we look forward to a long a very mutually beneficial relationship with them.

Congratulations to Terry Moran and Robin Thorpe on winning the first two lucky draws. The next 100 club evening will be on Friday the 20th April. We look forward to seeing as many of our members as possible in support of this great initiative. All proceeds from the draw will go to the constant improvement and maintenance of our wonderful golf courses.

Golf Course

The DCC course is currently having restoration and repair work done to the two bunkers on the 2nd and 3rd holes respectively. As all our members and guests will have seen over the past year or so, the condition of the bunker short and right of the 2nd green and the bunker short of the 3rd green are in a terrible state. Peter Matkovich and his team were given the go ahead by the DCC Board to repair damage to both of these bunkers. It has become extremely urgent that we attend to this however with the recent SA Amateur at DCC along with Club Championships we delayed as long as possible. We anticipate both these areas will be deemed GUR for the next few weeks while work and recovery takes place. It is very important to note that the work being done is not to redesign but repair and restore. We apologise for the inconvenience caused from this, but we look forward to having two of our world famous holes back to their brilliant best.
