GOLF OPERATIONS

Golf Operations would like to extend a warm welcome to Nicholas Morgan who has joined our team on the 10th of March. Nicholas will be replacing Connor Henderson who has taken up an opportunity overseas. We are thrilled to have someone of Nicholas’s calibre join the team. He is an ex Clifton pupil who achieved prefect honours in his final year. Nicholas then went on to earn a B Com degree in Strategic Management. Nicholas is currently pursuing a Diploma with the PGA Of South Africa. Nicholas is currently playing league for DCC and has a wonderful understanding of the game and will undoubtedly be a valuable asset to the DCC team.

Golf Fitness Misconception #4

Static stretching is the “best” way to loosen up

Those times are long gone! If you are still applying static stretch and hold prior to your round or even in the gym, thinking it will benefit your golf, you are sorely mistaken. Numerous studies have shown that static stretching prior to a round of golf actually DECREASES your ability to produce power! Not only that, Fowles et al. (2000) proved that your strength is also reduced by up to 28% immediately after a stretch, and by 9% up to an hour later. Lastly, if you’re tight in a particular area, you need to ask yourself why you’re tight. As Nick Buchan from Stronger Golf so eloquently put it-“A muscle is tight because it’s protecting a perceived instability, compensating for another area, or is guarding against a perceived threat.” In essence, by stretching the tight muscle, you could be treating the symptom, not the cause of the problem. For the record, the most beneficial way to prepare the body for the swing is through a series of dynamic movements, often incorporating mild resistance such as resistance bands.

Deloitte Challenge - Sun, 18 March

The Deloitte Challenge takes place on Sunday 18th March 2018. The route remains the same as last year with the runners exiting the M4 at Isiah Ntshangase Rd (Walter Gilbert) - turning left into Masabalala Yengwe Ave (NMR) and then left onto the Promenade under the M4. Arrangements at DCC will remain the same as last year with Isaiah Ntshangase (Walter Gilbert) being divided between the runners and the members. The M4 is completely closed but Masabalala Yengwe (NMR) is open both ways so access to the club is relatively easy.

Club Compliments

Good morning,
I attended dinner on Wednesday night at the bistro, joining a long time friend of mine and I must say it was a world class experience. Sebastian was our waiter who attended to our every need. Drinks were served, he then explained certain food items in such detail that made us excited to eat it. The restaurant then got busy, and with a full restaurant and just two waiters these guys really know how to set standards of the durban country club, when Sebastian was busy Nathi assisted us where he could. Good job guys will definitely be coming back for the amazing food and top notch service.
