The 2018 DCC Club Championships are almost upon us, we will be getting underway with the A and B divisions on Saturday the 24th at Beachwood and the final round will be played at DCC on the 25th. We have had a reasonable entry thus far, but we really hope to attract at least 60 competitors per division. We have a little way to go. Golf operations will be hosting a pre-tournament function on Friday the 23rd in the Waterman Bar and all are welcome. This function will coincide with the launch of the new DCC 100 Club. We are thrilled to announce that a prize of R10 000 will be up for grabs should you have a ball in the draw and are present on the evening. Second prize is R3000 and a third prize of R2000 will be won on the evening by attendance only. The charge per ball is R100. Please note, this is an attendance draw, you will need to be present to win. We are really hoping to get the 100 Club going with some good momentum as the proceeds from this initiative will be going to the constant improvement of our wonderful golf course. There will be a number of specials on offer in the Bistro on all 100 Club evenings, so we look forward to creating a superb atmosphere in the Bistro along with some of the best dining Durban has to offer.

Golf Fitness Tip #3
Take a look at one of the most common misconceptions I see in amateur golfers, this could be you.
Swinging with weighted clubs before a round
Many amateur golfers warm up on the first tee by using two irons together, and making several swings. There are much more productive ways to better prepare your body for the swing. In actual fact, studies have shown that swinging with weighted clubs can reduce your initial club head speed by up to 30%! By taking a weighted club, you are swinging it slower than your normal club head speed. By swinging slowly, you are effectively telling your brain that this is the speed you are supposed to swing the club. The brain accepts this information and uses that as your new club head speed. Many golfers aren’t capable of making an unimpeded swing with one club in their hands, and are reluctant to swing too hard in the early going in case of injury. If risking injury in the early going is the main concern, why would you make your first few swings with a heavier implement? If anything it should be the other way around. Food for thought.
Have a great weekend.

Deloitte Challenge - Sun, 18 March
The Deloitte Challenge takes place on Sunday 18th March 2018. The route remains the same as last year with the runners exiting the M4 at Isiah Ntshangase Rd (Walter Gilbert) - turning left into Masabalala Yengwe Ave (NMR) and then left onto the Promenade under the M4. Arrangements at DCC will remain the same as last year with Isaiah Ntshangase (Walter Gilbert) being divided between the runners and the members. The M4 is completely closed but Masabalala Yengwe (NMR) is open both ways so access to the club is relatively easy.
