Message from our Chairman
Being my first communication to members as the newly elected Chairman of Durban Country Club, I would like to say that I am honoured and privileged to serve the Club as Chairman, and the current Board of Governors and I are hard at work in ensuring the sustainability and success of the Club. I would like to thank the outgoing Chairman, Mr Richard Pemberton, for his guidance and advice over the last few years that I have served on the Board.
The purpose of this letter is to notify the members that the new Board is very positive about the future of the Club, and is working on ways to implement the Sigma International plan in combination with other initiatives to take the Club forward. At the top of our priority list is to implement policies, procedures and best business practices to ensure that the Club is able to trade to at least a break-even point in the coming financial year.
There are many urgent tasks in the short to medium term, which include the appointment of a new General Manager of the Club, as well as to attend to much needed repairs, maintenance and refurbishments. As a member, rest assured, you will receive regular communication from the Board on our future plans and material decisions which will affect the Club. We plan to be transparent and keep our members abreast of developments.
We have been made aware that there are currently a number of unsubstantiated allegations concerning improper and/or dishonest conduct, it seems, emanating from a letter(s) written by a member, being spread around the club and to members regarding the past Chairman and current CEO and, by implication, the Board members (past and present). The Board would like to make it abundantly clear that it has not been presented with any concrete evidence or proof of the validity of these allegations and the Board rejects them as being without any substance.
The Board would like to urge members to not only patronise the Club, its wonderful facilities, and golf courses, but to encourage family, friends and colleagues to become members of this wonderful institution as well. The Durban Country Club is truly a gem of the City of Durban, with an unsurpassed location, a proud history and heritage, and world-class sporting facilities, amenities and offerings for a wide variety of our citizens.
The Board is currently made up of the following members:
- Guy Doherty-Bigara
- Carlyle Field
- Doc Motala
- Themba Ngcobo
- Richard Pemberton
- Kamlesh Ranchhod
- Errol Stewart
- Pascale van Maris
- Lance Whiteford
We would like to thank our outgoing CEO Pascale van Maris for all her hard work and dedication over the last 10 years. We wish Pascale every success and happiness in her future endeavours.
Please feel free to communicate any ideas, propositions and thoughts you may have which you feel may prove to be of benefit to the Club.
On behalf of the Board, Management and Staff, we wish you and your family well over the upcoming holidays and look forward to a harmonious and successful 2018.
