News from the CEO
We are delighted to welcome the Directors of the Key Group to our Club. The Durban Country Club has become the home for the Key Group business functions. We would like to thank our long standing member Paul for his foresight to share the benefits of a DCC membership with his Directors. We encourage our members to follow the footprint of the Key Group.
We would also like to welcome Errol Stewart, Doc Motala and Themba Ngcobo to the Durban Country Club Board of Directors and look forward to their positive involvement to the betterment of our Club.
Our Clubhouse has been a buzz of activity with functions and corporate golf days. We encourage our members to book their year-end business functions with us. 2017 has been a tough year for all of us which shows in our revenue figures. Many of our members support our Club in every which way possible. They use our function facilities for their business & family functions, our Bistro restaurant for family lunches and dinners, the Kidzone for their grandchildren's birthday parties, the pool area to relax and entertain their friends and they play golf on our magnificent golf courses. We thank them for their support!
Our goal for the last 3 months of the year is to ensure service excellence and consistency in all of our offerings. We are focusing on increasing revenue and constantly looking at different revenue streams. There are only 11 weeks until Christmas and our Christmas day bookings will open on the 1st of November. Michelle will be there to assist you with your Christmas bookings.
In a previous newsletter we shared the good news that Durban Country Club has received funding from Productivity SA for capacity building. The Board has been working closely with Sigma International in looking at the profitability of the different cost centres of our Club. We have received the first cost centre draft and strategic review from Sigma International. A Future Forum was formed as part of the turn-around solutions of Productivity SA. Through the establishment of a Future Forum we create collaborative structures between management and employees, which function as early warning systems to detect and manage potential problems before they arise. Thus, Turnaround Solutions identifies with all companies, not only those in distress. Our Future Forum consist of 6 staff members. This is a bottom-up approach to recognise the need to resolve problems proactively.
At the same time, during September, the operations team worked closely together with a PUM expert from the Netherlands. The PUM programme originates from the Netherlands and is fully funded by the Dutch government. Their mission is to share knowledge for businesses and better lives. A lot of different ideas were shared by Menno on how to tap into different revenue streams and additional ways of cost savings. We are delighted to be able to offer exclusive business scholarship opportunities via the PUM program to our members. Please contact me for further details.
The Board, Management and staff are continuously working on turn-around solutions for our Club. We would like to encourage our members to become ambassadors of our Club and promote it positively at every opportunity.
Have a great weekend.
The ‘Durban Run’ takes place this Sunday the 8th of Oct.
The only access to the Club is via the M4. Please have your membership card available.
Gus du Plessis sent us this fabulous sighting of 'a Pelican family meeting' as he puts it, on the 13th fairway at DCC on Wednesday.
He was also fortunate enough to see 2 Giant Kingfishers feeding at the 15th.
This is a final reminder to pay your 2017 handicap fees. Please pay before the 14th of October.
Should accounts remain unpaid, we shall assume that you do not wish to be handicapped, and will remove the charge from your account and your name from the handicap network.
Thank you kindly,
We would like to congratulate Lisanthan Moodley on his recent selection to the SA Schools U19 team.
This is a fantastic achievement and just reward for some hard work Lisanthan has put in with The Logical Golf Lab team.
Hole in One
Congratulations to Nad Govender on his hole in one on the 15th hole at DCC on Wednesday, 4th October 2017.
This is the 5th time Nad has had a hole in one.
We are delighted to welcome Guy Waller and his team to Beachwood. Guy has taken over the running of the HWH from the 2nd of October. Guy has a wealth of experience in the hospitality field. New menus will be introduced at the end of October. The team will start using their own point of sale. Please note that from the 1st of November only cash, credit card and Zapper payment methods are accepted. We encourage our members to support our new service provider at the HWH.
Our duty manager Jason will continue overseeing the smooth running of the Clubhouse and the bar together with Connor and Prashay on the golf side.

LADIES GOLF CHAT
Another month has gone by and some people are already counting down to Christmas! It’s crazy how fast time flies when you’re having fun.
Twenty ladies, mainly from the Saturday group, have been on a ‘Wine and Golf’ tour down in the Cape for four days and have played at three magnificent golf courses: De Zalze, Stellenbosch and Erinvale. Three superb wine tastings were attended at Ernie Els, Klein Zalze and Hidden Valley. We have been very lucky with the weather, although it has been fresh and crisp in the mornings! Anyway, it has been a lot of fun, and some good wines have kept us warm! So now for another two good months of golf as well as fun, of course!
LAST WEEK RESULTS:
Tuesday 26th September: The competition was cancelled due to bad weather.
Friday 29th September: Last weekday league match DCC, Zimbali and Simbithi
The Single team managed a good win versus Zimbali on 9/3! Well played ladies!
Sadly the Better Ball match versus Simbithi was forfeited by the opposition because some ladies couldn’t walk and the carts weren’t allowed due to wet conditions.
Individual Stableford for the Ball pool at DCC:
1st) Liz du Plessis on 34 points
2nd) Jay Lindsay on 30 points
3rd) Shirley Koster on 29 points
Saturday 30th September: 4 ball Alliance, 2 scores to count at BW
1st) Cyndy Mc Keown, Kim Tomlinson, Aline Jamme and Jean Steenhuisen visiting from Kloof, on 86 points!
2nd) Lydia Muhl, Michèle Sollberger, Shirley Balladon & Jennie Shaw on 82 points
Tuesday 3rd October: 3 ball Pivot at BW. Vasso on duty
Wednesday 4th October: Invitational day at MECC, sponsored by Global. R275.
Friday 6th October: 3 Ball Alliance, 1 on 3’s, 2 on 4’s, 3 on 5’s at DCC. Sheila on duty.
Saturday 7th October: Individual Stableford at DCC. Lorraine Teixeira on duty.
Sunday 8th October: last Business league match versus Royal at DCC.
Good luck to the team selected! May all your drives be straight and all your putts drop!
Next week Tuesday 10th October: BEACHWOOD SHIELD OPEN, 36 HOLES.
Better Ball Am and Foursome Pm. R 280
Enter with your Interclub partner for a good practice or with anyone for some good fun! You can only play Better Ball in the morning if you don’t feel like playing 36 holes. Please invite a friend, as the competition is open to all the other clubs! Send me a message on my cell 0762250759 or by email at email@example.com
Tuesday 17th October: Royal Durban Open Day, R280. Poster attached.
Monday 23rd October: KZN Seniors Women Society at Athlone Park.
The Captain Liz Pilcher has asked me to remind our seniors ladies to support these golf days. R100 only!
Just to let you know that our very own Judy Paterson won the KZN Senior Champs last month at Royal and the over 70’s! Sue Reeve came 3rd and Cyndy McKeown won the best nett in the Silver division. Well played again ladies!
That’s all for today.
Have a happy week!
