Slow Meat Festival

10 chefs - 20 cuts of meat - One Winner !

When 10 of South Africa’s premiere chefs got together - there was a lot of showing off going on - and the patrons at this year’s Slow Meat Festival were spoilt for choice.

All 10 chefs prepared dishes that not only showcased the incredible Nguni meat they were working with, but also their innovative prowess in terms of churning out dishes that we could have only imagined let alone tasted. As stated by Caroline McCann of Slow Food South Africa, “the festival highlights the importance of sustainable, clean eating in an increasingly fast-paced world but today we also had a lot of fun doing it.” McCann further stated, “The overall support for this event seems to be growing and in time to come this will undoubtedly become a sought after ticket on the Durban Calendar.”

One single Nguni cow fed all of these people! That's why it's essential to use every part. It's a moral and economical imperative.

Well done to Chef Xanthos and his team for winning the Slow Meat festival. Thank you for bringing the #SlowMeat festival and the @slowfood_international movement and initiative to KZN.

Furthermore, Durban Country Club has qualified for the National finals of “the team of 4” in the Unilever Chef of year competition. We wish Xanthos, Fayaaz, Lezelle and Sandesh all the best.

CMASA Annual Conference, AGM and Awards

Congratulations to Pascale van Maris for being voted Top 3 in the ‘Manager of the Year’ awards!

CMASA is committed to ongoing professional development for Management and Staff in the club sector and offers ongoing education programmes to suit all disciplines of employees. Today's club manager may be expected to manage a complex and sometimes large property of several hectares; maintain multiple buildings and facilities; provide sports and leisure services for members and visitors; manage a team of employees and contractors; promote the business to the local, regional, national and in many cases international communities and of course manage the club's finances efficiently and prudently. Club managers recognise that clubs are businesses that require a combination of business acumen, tact and diplomacy and top-class management skills. The success of a club manager depends on individual commitment. Club managers must invest in their own growth to achieve their peak potential.

We would like to commend Pascale and thank her for putting Durban Country Club on the map. And rumour has it that she missed the top place by only a smidgen.

Locker Room Towels

We continue to experience a loss of our white towels that are available in the locker rooms. We implore members to please ensure that these towels are not removed from the locker rooms. We are finding locker room towels at the swimming pool, squash courts, on golf carts and especially at the tennis courts. We kindly ask our members to assist us in this matter.

Road Closure:

The Tin Man Triathlon is being held this Sunday, 13th August. Access to the Club will be via the M4.
